Going On An Adventure!

On August 20th we packed up our bags and headed out for an adventure! We were really heading up to a Harper Family Reunion in Idaho, but we decided to leave early and have some fun. Our first stop was to pick Grandma Harper up and then off to the Golden Spike National Monument. This was so fun. We got there just in time to see the train demonstration.
Both trains backed up honked their horns a few time and then moved back to their spot. I know there was more to it, but it was hard to hear the Guide while the trains were being so loud.

The horns were really loud!

We tried to squish a dime under the train wheel, but couldn't find it afterwards. It was fun to look through the shop and watch a movie that they had in the visitors center. I can't imagine how difficult it would have been to build those tracks. The engines were shiny and beautiful and well worth the trip!

Our next stop was just past the Golden Spike Park. I actually had seen an article about this in the Newspaper the Sunday before our trip. I thought it looked so cool we just had to go. So we visited the Spiral Jetty.......
This is an art masterpiece created by some guy in 1970. Made of Basalt Rock and sticking 1500 feet into the lake. It was actually under water for like 30 years, but is now visible since the lake has receded. We walked right out to the center of it on Salt.
It was so fun to explore!

Ben did taste the salt, but couldn't really handle this much.

Some of the pools at the edge of the lake were this pretty pink color. I thought it looked like icebergs sticking up out of the water.
This was a gorgeous place and worth the 4 wheel drive out to it. Really Do Not drive this all the way without a high clearance car. We almost got stuck in our Pilot. It was a very bumpy drive but oh so much fun!
